2009 YEAR IN REVIEW:

I guess it’s a bout time that I write a little bit about our year in review.

Sally & I were discussing our highlights and lowlights of 2009 and we’re working on the top 10 issues.

WE’RE DEBT FREE!

On Nov 2009 I was able to pay off the home equity loan in full! The “HEL” loan had ballooned up to 18K at one point. We were using this loan as an excuse for spending more than we were making.

I only have a little visa to pay off. I fixed up my “hearse.” The 73’ Ford truck was my parents’ truck from years ago. When DAD passed away in 1978, I bought this keepsake for to remain in the family.

In order to be debt free we merely had to BUDGET our money. I use Microsoft excel to budget the figures.

We are lifetime members of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. We first attended a class back in 2006. We used the turtle method as opposed to the gazelle method. Those who have participated in FPU would understand.

Our Lutheran church here in Topeka has offered the course earlier this year. They’re planning on offering another course in February 2010. I will try to make all the classes, but it’s not imperative we attend, as we’re all ready life time members.

We purchased a DVD from FPU with all 13 classes. One can take all these classes from home, but it’s better to share your knowledge with others.

Sharing FPU is like sharing the good news of Jesus.

changed in 4,000 years.

Good morning, brothers and sisters; it's always a delight to see
the pews crowded on Sunday morning, and so eager to get into
God's Word. Turn with me in your Bibles, if you will to the 47th
chapter of Genesis, we'll begin our reading at verse 13, and go
through verse 27.
Brother Ray, would you stand and read that great passage for us?
....(reading)...
Thank you for that fine reading, Brother Ray... So we see that
economic hard times fell upon Egypt , and the people turned to
the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. And Pharaoh
nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses
that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a
great tax increase, and gave it all to him willingly in return for grain. And
this went on until their money ran out, and they were hungry again.
So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their
livestock -their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey -
to barter for grain, and verse 17 says that only took them through
the end of that year..
But the famine wasn't over, was it? So the next year, the people
came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except
their land and their own lives. "There is nothing left in the sight
of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before
your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food,
and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh." So they
surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to
Pharaoh's government, and then sold themselves into slavery
to him, in return for grain. What can we learn from this, brothers
and sisters?
That turning to the government instead of to God to be our provider
in hard times only leads to slavery? Yes.. That the only reason
government wants to be our provider is to also become our master?
Yes.
But look how that passage ends, brothers and sisters! Thus Israel
settled in the land of Egypt , in the land of Goshen .. And they gained
possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly." God
provided for His people, just as He always has! They didn't end up
giving all their possessions to government, no, it says they gained
possessions! But I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous
one. We see the same thing happening today - the government today
wants to "share the wealth "once again, to take it from us and redistribute
it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken
control of education, and ration it back to us, and when government
rations it, then government decides who gets it, and how much, and
what kind. And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will
wind up no differently than the people of Egypt did four thousand years
ago - as slaves to the government, and as slaves to our leaders.
What Mr. Obama's government is doing now is no different from what
Pharaoh's government did then, and it will end the same. And a lot of
people like to call Mr. Obama a "Messiah," don't they? Is he a Messiah?
A savior? Didn't the Egyptians say, after Pharaoh made them his slaves,
"You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh"?
Well, I tell you this -
I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine;
and Mr. Obama is no Messiah! No, brothers and sisters,
if Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh.
Bow with me in prayer, if you will.
Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You, and You alone.
We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be.
We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel, when Samuel warned the people
of what a ruler would do, where it says "And in that day you will cry out
because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but
the LORD will not answer you in that day." And Lord, we acknowledge
that day has come. We cry out to you because of the ruler that we have
chosen for ourselves as a nation. Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray
for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters.
Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect Your people
from the atrocities of Pharaoh's government.
In God We Trust...

It's a Wonderful Life

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE:

Yes indeed, it is TRULY a wonderful life!

Yesterday Mark, Sally & myself were honored to attend the sold out musical performance of “It’s a Wonderful Life” at the Topeka Civic Theater.

Our local NBC TV network played the original black and white version. We have it on our DVR box.

I related a lot to George Bailey, the main lead. In 25 words or less, here is the story:

A good man, George Bailey, is disappointed and wants to die. An angel appears to save him.

Here’s my wonderful life:

A follower of Jesus, Myron D. Holter, is disappointed. He does NOT want to die. He’s writing about his life and posting his writings on the web.

Americans For Prosperity

Yesterday at 1:30 p.m. two very different meetings occurred.

On the grounds of the United States Capitol, thousands of grassroots activists from across the nation rallied in a park with the media present. Our message to the Senate was simple: "Keep your hands off our health care!" CLICK HERE FOR PICTURES

Meanwhile, at the White House, President Obama, Majority Leader Harry Reid, other liberal Senators and their special interest allies met behind closed doors to cut political deals, twist arms and plot strategy -- all to get their health care takeover bill across the finish line and out of the Senate.

At our open air rally, Laura Ingraham, Dr. Tom Coburn, Sen. Jim DeMint, Sen. Richard Burr, Sen. Johnny Isakson, Jim Martin of 60 Plus, and our Tea Party Patriot friends Jenny Beth Martin and Mark Meckler detailed our reasons for opposing this disastrous health care takeover while urging Americans to stay in the fight for our freedoms. Across the nation, thousands more Americans went to the local offices of their U.S. Senators with the same message.

Meanwhile, at the White House, the President and his political friends negotiated in secret. Cut their deals in secret. And tried to buy votes in secret.

The contrast could not be more clear. And, that's why the American people are with us.

Ever wonder if your grassroots efforts make a difference?

Well, let me give you two numbers: 61 and 44.

CNN -- hardly a conservative front group -- recently reported that 61% of the American people now OPPOSE the Washington health care "reform" effort. Support for the health care takeover is literally in free fall.

The second number: Gallup Polling Company reports that President Obama's personal approval rating is down to just 44% -- the lowest level in history for a President still in his first year.

President Obama has made this ill-advised health care takeover his top priority, and the American people are telling the President loud and clear to stop now. Sadly, he's not listening.

I could tell you so many stories from today's rally at the Capitol. But, I'll hold at just two.

As the rally ended and the thousands of activists headed for their Senators' offices to deliver their message one-on-one, a young man in a baseball cap walked up to me and said "I'm from Jersey and I closed up my pizza shop for the day to come down here to send a message. Times may be hard but I can always make up the money later and I don't want my children to live under government-run health care." With that, he introduced me to his young son.

Minutes later, a retired gentleman from North Carolina holding an American flag (a big one) came up to me, shook my hand and said, "This is the third time I've come to Washington, D.C. this year and I'll come again if I have to. I fought in Korea for freedom and now I'm fighting for freedom again. I've never quit at anything in my life and I'm too old to quit at something now!" He gave me a big bear hug and then marched off for the long ride home.

I walked back to my car with that combat veteran's words ringing in my ears, "I've never quit at anything in my life..."

He's right. We're not going to quit.

Harry Reid and President Obama and Speaker Pelosi are trying to sell "inevitability." The idea that this health care takeover cannot be stopped.

We've stopped it since the August recess, through Labor Day, then through October, then to Thanksgiving. Now, we're just over a week from Christmas.

They can be stopped. And, you and I and folks across America are the ones who are standing in the gap for our freedoms. Thank you.

CHRISTMAS:

I used to like Christmas.

When I was a little guy, Christmas was always something I looked at with earnest.

My parents would always make it fun. We lived on a farm NE of Bruce SD. I am the 5th child of six children. I’m the thorn between two roses.

So with that in mind, Christmas time was always enjoyable.

I don’t enjoy Christmas anymore.

On January 15, 2010 at 9:30 am, the Senate Judiciary Committee will conduct a hearing on the Kansas Sovereignty Resolution, SCR 1615. The hearing will be in the new Hearing Room on the 5th floor, South Wing of the Capitol building in Topeka.

It is imperative the Senate see grassroots support for the 10th Amendment if any legislation is to go forward this year. Please plan to come and show your support for SCR 1615. The hearing may take 90 minutes, but they may be the most important 90 minutes of this session.

I am currently reading the Limbaugh letter and came across the article where Rush is interviewing Sarah Palin.

In the interview, Rush mentions her book on “Do I respond to attacks?” His answer was to just laugh at them.

That is my answer to all you “Liberals” out there reading my latest blog.
I am humored by your ignorance.

You know who you are.

By calling me a hypocrite, among many other names, you are merely revealing your ignorance.

I also ran for mayor back in Feb. 2005. I do have an opinion.

CITY COUNCIL REORGANIZED:

The city will be divided up into quadrants. The north/south quadrant will be Topeka Avenue. The north/south will be the Kansas River.

Ground zero will be the new Topeka Ave. Bridge The 2nd mayor, me, will be cutting the ribbon..

MAYOR DUTIES:

Please re-read the previous sentence. All this entire mayoral candidate wanted to do in 2005 was to cut ribbons and kiss babies. Or like my financial friend Dave Ramsey tells his callers, eating rice and beans or beans and rice. All I wanted to do was kiss babies and/or cut ribbons. I will NOT kiss ribbons or cut babies though. Enough is enough J

So here’s what I’m thinking:

In the next election cycle, there will be two candidates running for office. A bumper sticker could be something like

BUNTEN-HOLTER
Now the 2nd mayor would need to learn how to conduct the weekly meetings at city hall.
He/she would be knowledgeable on the Roberts rule of order. This candidate would rather be out cheerleading for this great city. But this guy would refuse to wear a female cheerleader outfit. J

The voters of Topeka KS would decide in the next election.

The mayor would only vote in the event of a 2-2 tie. The mayor also would have veto rights.

CITY COUNCIL:

The Topeka City council’s four districts will be voted by the Topeka voters come election time. Currently the voters decide the nine elected officials every other year. In 2010 the even districts #2,4 & ,8 will be decided.

I propose that there will only be even districts #2 & 4 with #6 & #8 no longer in existence.

The current incumbent in these districts would need to run for office, like everyone else.

In 2011 the odd districts #1,3,5,7 & 9 will be up for election with our current election process.

I propose that there only be districts #1 & 3 come election time in 2011. The incumbents would need to apply as a candidate like every other citizen. Districts #5,7 & 9 will no longer exist.

The incumbents in these districts will need to run for office when the time comes.

Those running for office in any elected position will need to be a voter in the district they are running. No exceptions.

The two mayors will need to be a voting citizen in the city of Topeka KS also. No exceptions.

Please bear in mind, this is a rough draft for you all in government to consider.

It doesn’t matter what kind of government you have in life, it’s the people who make it work .. or not.

Today my health journey is to take me to a Dr. Lane on Lane St. Our primary physician recommends that I see someone to look into my head.

I hope he/she finds something.

I’m a Tiger supporter. Get the media out of it. If he has family problems, let him work it out without the whole world knowing.

Currently the health at the Myron Holter household sucks, if anyone cares.
Last night while working at the Y, Sally did her usual klutzy thing and ran into a bar bell machine. I walked to the Y and drove her home. It’s now 2:30 AM and I’m listening to Sally sleep and there’s no noise coming from her bedroom. That’s GOOD!

Sally has sleep apnea and we cannot sleep together. But she has given me many conjugal visits. HA She asked me to take a picture of her ONCE wearing her contraption called CPAP. I guess it’s better that she wears this contraption or face death. I prefer the earlier.

My question is: ??

How’s going to take care of who?

Sally & I have both worked at the YMCA. Sally is still working at the SW Y near our home. I worked part time at the downtown Y from Mar 2001-summer 2005? I could be wrong on the exact date I got downsized. Some like to say “fired”.

Why am I writing about the Y?

Well, I’ve decided to join Jerry C. and talk about the “C” in the Y. We meet every Tues @ 7:00 PM at the chapel.

Speaks of Torture

I got shot down over N Vietnam in 1967,
a Sqdn. Commander.
After I returned in 1973...I published 2 books that dealt a lot with "real torture" in Hanoi .
Our make believe president is branding our country as a bunch of torturers when he has no idea what torture is.

As for me, put thru a mock execution because I would not respond... pistol whipped on the head...same event..
Couple of days later... hung by my feet all day.
I escaped and a couple of weeks later,
I got shot and recaptured.
Shot was OK...what happened afterwards was not.

They marched me to Vinh...put me in the rope trick, trick...almost pulled my arms out of the sockets.
Beat me on the head with a little wooden rod
until my eyes were swelled shut,
and my unshot, unbroken hand a pulp.

Next day hung me by the arms...
rebroke my right wrist...
wiped out the nerves in my arms
that control the hands...
rolled my fingers up into a ball.
Only left the slightest movement
of my L forefinger.
So I started answering
with some incredible lies.

Sent me to Hanoi
strapped to a barrel of gas
in the back of a truck.

Hanoi..
on my knees....
rope trick again..
Beaten by a big fool.

Into leg irons on a bed in Heartbreak Hotel.

Much kneeling--hands up at Zoo.

Really bad beating
for refusing to condemn
Lyndon Johnson.

Several more kneeling events.
I could see my knee bone
thru kneeling holes.

There was an escape from the annex to the Zoo. I was the Senior
Officer of a large building because of escape...they started a mass
torture of all commanders.

I think it was July 7, 1969...they started beating me with a car fan
belt. In first 2 days I took over 300 strokes...then stopped counting
because I never thought I would live thru it.

They continued day-night torture to get me to confess to a non-existent
part in the escape. This went on for at least 3 days. On my knees....
fan belting...cut open my scrotum with fan belt stroke. opened up
both knee holes again. My fanny looked like hamburger...I could not
lie on my back.

They tortured me into admitting
that I was in on the escape...
and that my 2 room-mates knew about it.

The next day I denied the lie.

They commenced torturing me again
with 3- 6- or 9 strokes of the fan belt
every day from about July 11 or 12th..
to 14 October 1969.
I continued to refuse to lie
about my roommates again.

Now, the point of this
is that our make-believe president
has declared to the world
that we (U.S..) are a bunch of torturers...
Thus it will be OK to torture us
next time when they catch us...
because that is what the U.S. does.

Our make-believe president
is a know nothing fool
who thinks that pouring a little water
on some one's face,
or hanging a pair of women's pants
over an Arabs head is TORTURE.
He is a meathead.

I just talked to MOH holder Leo Thorsness,
who was also in my squadron, in jail...
as was John McCain...
and we agree that McCain does not speak
for the POW group when he claims
that Al Gharib was torture...
or that "water boarding" is torture.

Our president and those fools around him
who keep bad mouthing our great country
are a disgrace to the United States.
Please pass this info on to Sean Hannity.
He is free to use it to point out
the stupidity of the claims
that water boarding...
which has no after effect...
is torture.
If it got the Arab to cough up the story about how he planned the attack on the twin towers in NYC... hurrah for the guy who poured the water.

Black Friday

Why do they call it that? .. Who knows? Maybe it’s because all these retail outlets are banking on their financial futures on one day. As for my house, and me, we’ll stay home thank you.

My Thanksgiving is one of dizziness, headaches and now the common cold. Hopefully it’s just the common cold and not the swine flu. UFF-DA

Yesterday we picked up our son and enjoyed a feast at the AG hall here in Topeka. I shared my business card with the folks.

I might ask Sally to not have our friend Julie S. over for after Thanksgiving feast. I was able to take a photo of our non-burned #20 turkey this year.

All in all, our Thanksgiving was a blessing. We have Jesus in our hearts, and that’s all that matters.

I like Sarah Palin! I like her politics. I like her answers she gave to FOX news. I even like her looks.

She reminds me a lot of Ronald Reagan.

Our country is in NEED of a person like Sarah Palin. I even purchased her book “Going Rogue.”

Yesterday I spent most of my day fixing my poorly constructed city barn. There’s a little “problem” called wood rot. We live on the side of a hill and I forgot to remember to construct a guttering system. OH WELL. I consider my time spent in our backyard my therapy. I need help!

Our schedule will be the same as millions of other families like to celebrate this holiday.

This year I want to do the turkey right! Last year I burned the turkey on the smoker.
