I HAVE AN IDEA: (Plan A)

I read with interest yesterday’s paper in our local paper regarding our mayor’s wishes and I have an idea.

Sally get’s scared whenever I mention to her that I’ve got an idea. Her usual response is “You’ve always got an idea” or something to that. So, here’s my idea.

Instead of having nine city council people making our decisions, let’s have four. The four civil servants serving our great city could be divided up into NW/NE/SE/SW and the quadrants would be divided by the Kansas river and Topeka Blvd.

The elected officials would need be a Topekan and live in the quadrant they would represent.

Come election time, the citizens would vote for ALL FOUR of the servants of our great city, the capital of Kansas, Topeka KS

The next question would normally be, “What happens if there’s a tie”? That’s when the mayor casts the deciding vote.

Read the local paper, cjonline.com and reply in kind if you so desire.

Myron, your wife's right. You do always have an idea and yes, it should scare her.
About your idea, I'd really hate to be the mayor in a situation like that. But hey, what we're doing now isn't exactly a confidence builder either...

IF I WERE MAYOR

There would be an equal salary, details to follow.
There would be a co-mayor.
There would be a Topeka chopper.
There would be a NEW charter ordinance.
There would be a whole lot of replies to this blog.
There would be a FPU course offered by the city.
There would be a salary increase to the mayor. (no more expense to the taxpayers)

OK,, As promised, here my newly revised salary plan for our great city:

CURRENT:

City manager – 137.5 K
Mayor - 20.0 K
City council - 90 K
_________
TOTAL 247.5 K

PROPOSED (by Myron)

City manager - 35.35 K
Mayor 35.5 K
Co-mayor 35.5 K
City council(4) 141.4 K (4 x 35.5 = 141.4)
_______
TOTAL 247.5 K

The co-mayor would be leading the Tuesday night meetings. The empty seat to the left of the mayor would be occupied by the mayor when he/she feels like appearing.

There would be four city council members. Read previous blog. A tie would be broken by the mayor or co-mayor.

Here endeth my idea

I’ll think of more later … Myron@myownfaith2.com
