CITY MANAGER OF TOPEKA KANSAS INTERVIEW:

My interview with our city manager, Norton Bonaparte, went very well.

I wanted to ask Norton the questions most everyone else is asking,

“Why do we need our taxes raised?”

The chopper interview can be done by the mainstream media at another time. I noticed that the cameras were rolling.

I will now post this to my public blog.

Might as well admit it, Myron. We're all screwed. Cities, Counties, and States all over the country are having this exact same conversation.

As more and more people lose their jobs, they are buying less and less all the time. This translates into less tax revenue for the government to spend.

People think of me as hard hearted because I believe there are a hell of a lot of services we could cut back on. TPAC for instance. Liberals whine and cry that we owe it to the community to support the arts. Bull! If TPAC's such a big deal in Topeka, let the people who enjoy this sort of thing support it.

Raise admission to things like the zoo. Raise rates to ride the bus. If you use it, pay for it.

Raise rates at the public swimming pools. Start charging admission to use the local youth centers. It doesn't have to be much. But people gotta understand there is a cost to keeping the places open.

Anyway, I'm rambling on again. But come on, working people like myself are pretty much at a breaking point when it comes to taxes.
