AUNT RUTH FINAL THOUGHTS:

12/30/2008 4:36:21 AM

I have inserted a photo of the sisters of my aunt Ruth. The Bergh sisters all got together last summer. My mother is very appreciative of any time she can spend with her siblings.

I will post her obituary in my obit web page also.

RIP my beloved Auntie.

Dear Family and Friends,

Grandma Ruth Billman, Martha's mother, went home to Heaven peacefully just after 1 a.m. last night (early Monday morning, December 29, 2008.) She had suffered a massive stroke last Tuesday and since then was in a coma. We had taken her to the hospital, but because there was no hope for recovery apart from a miracle, we brought her back the same day to our home, where she has lived with us since we returned to the States this summer. All of our Towner children were able to be here for the Christmas holidays, so they were with Grandma during her last days on earth.

The Lord answered a prayer of Ruth, and she was granted her request to be active in serving the Lord until the last. The night she had her stroke, a few hours before, Ruth shared God's love to a Hispanic lady in our home, tutoring her in English. She had impacted so many people for the Lord. Many relatives and friends stopped by this week to say good bye to her as she lay there in her bedroom beside our kitchen. Two of her sisters, Aunties Thea and Marge, also spent some days here to be with Ruth. There has been some sadness during this Christmastime, but there has been a very strong sense of peace in our home, so much so that one Hispanic guest begged us, "Tell me more about Jesus, so I can have this same peace!"

During the past few days, Grandma Ruth, although she was in a coma, would often try to raise her hand in worship as the family would sing hymns at her bedside. Martha and her sister Carol both were speaking and singing gently to their mother as she was called home. She didn’t show pain these six days since she had her stroke, just deeper breathing on the last day. To avoid discomfort for her as much as possible, we kept helping her adjust her position and using many pillows, but she wasn’t agitated nor did she appear to be in pain these days. To go quickly and without pain was an answer to prayer.

She had looked so well just yesterday (Sunday) morning, and we wondered if she might linger on for yet another week. Around suppertime, however, she started showing signs that she was soon leaving us, by the color of her skin. While Martha and Aunt Thea sang to her during the Sunday morning church hour, she raised her hand once again, as she often did through the years, joining in worship to the Lord.

A few days ago, Ruth told another widow, "I don't want to spent another Christmas without my Herb." God has granted her that desire. She has gone ahead of us to glory, to await the Wedding Feast of her Lord Jesus. She would want you to know that you’re warmly invited to attend that Celebration too!

Visitation times will be Tuesday evening, December 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 2 p.m. at Bethany Church (6900 Auto Club Road, Bloomington, MN 55438). The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at Bethany Church. Further information will be available on the Albin's Funeral Chapel website www.albinchapel.com

We will all miss Grandma Ruth Billman dearly. Thank you for your love and prayers for her and for us that you've shown during this time.

Much love,

Jim and Martha Towner
and from the Billman-Towner-Freeman-Bergh relatives
